Compton is the original destination for the New Year’s Day Fly In – and if we are lucky enough to have good weather it can be the busiest day of the year for us with over 100 visiting aircraft – plenty to see for all ages and great food available too.
Pilots: Start the New Year by flying to one of the most beautiful airfields in the UK. With free landings it’s a great excuse to dust off your flying cobwebs (although you may have to redo your weight and balance calculations after all those mince pies) and enjoy a great day out!
Every year the British Aerobatic Association holds the Don Henry Squadron competition at Compton. Some of the best aerobatic pilots in the UK compete on both Friday and Saturday for the prestigious Don Henry award.
Pilots: Those that aren’t competing – you are still more than welcome to pop in. Keep an eye on the NOTAMs for timings. A great day out if you are keen on starting out in aerobatics.
Compton has been hosting Pooley’s Day for over 15 years and it’s always a great day for both pilots and visitors by road. We get a great range of aircraft visiting us and often have a display or two. On a beautiful day we can be extremely busy with over 120 visiting aircraft.
Pilots: You will need to get PPR from Pooley’s directly – we cannot PPR you through Compton Ops. Pooley’s usually just invite their current customers so for VIP treatment, free landings and a goody bag on the day, start buying your equipment from them now!
Our Microlight Fly-In’s have been a flying success since we had our first one in 2009. There will be plenty of activity on the day with ultra-light aircraft of all shapes and sizes swarming in to visit us. Why not give it a go yourself? Experience flights available on the day!
Pilots: Great news if you qualify as a Microlight (no fibs!) you’ll be treated to free landings all day. A great opportunity to catch up with old Microlight friends and meet new ones amongst a buzzing atmosphere – and with some great food and drink too. A real social event.
The percentage of lady pilots in the UK is 6, but at Compton over 15% of our members are female! We are very proud of the women we are lucky enough to have here who are inspirational to us all. Enjoy speaking to the women who will be around on the day about learning to fly if you are interested yourself, reduced cost experience flights for ladies and free landings for all lady pilots.
Pilots: Everyone is welcome on this day, but if you are female and you have a licence or are on a training flight, then you will be able to land for free. PPR please! We will have lots to see and do whether you have your licence, are learning, or you enjoy being a passenger.
